SOLICITOR GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION AND PERMANENT SECRETARY
Taiwo Akinola Abidogun an astute and dedicated career lawyer, who has over the years accumulated expertise in matters connected with and pertaining to the administration of justice, managerial skills, advocacy and sound knowledge of the law. He was born in Enugu, Enugu State on the 24th August 1957, though an indigene of Awe, Oyo State, Nigeria. His early education started at W. T. C. Practicing School, Enugu from 1962 to 1966 and Ladi Lak Institute, Yaba, Lagos from 1967 to 1969 from where he obtained his primary school testimonial. In pursuit of post-primary education, he gained admission and was enrolled into the prestigious Baptist Academy, Shepherd Hill, Lagos where he bagged his West African School Certificate Division II in 1975 and Higher School Certificate (H.S.C.) in 1977.
Between 1977 and 1980, the young lad studied at the famous University of Lagos where he obtained his B. A. (Hons) Degree in English and Philosophy. He thereafter enrolled into the National Youth Service Corps (N.Y.S.C.) Scheme and creditably served his father land from 1980 to 1981 with his primary assignment at St. Francis Secondary School, Ikot Ataku, Eket, Akwa Ibom State. It was this rich exposure and background that spurred and goaded him to further seek and obtain admission into the Prestigious Law Faculty of the same University of Lagos in 1981, where he bagged his LL. B (Hons.) in 1984. After his successful law degree programme, he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School from 1984 to 1985 where he obtained his Barrister at Law Certificate (BL.) and was called to the Nigerian Bar on 21st August, 1985.
Upon being called to the Nigerian Bar, he had a stint at private legal practice with Alade Adesode & Co. from August 1985 to November, 1986 and started his career as a Pupil State Counsel with the Federal Ministry of Justice on 20th January 1987. As a result of hard work and dedication to duties, he had consistently been promoted through the ranks and some of the positions he held include Assistant Legal Adviser, Nigerian Customs Service, Ogun State from 20th January 1987 to 31st December 1987; Assistant Legal Adviser, Nigerian Customs Service, Oyo State from 1987 to 1992; Assistant Legal Adviser, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Lagos/Abuja from 1996 to 1998; Assistant Legal Adviser, Federal Ministry of Employment, Labour and Productivity, Abuja from 1998 to June 2001; Acting Legal Adviser, Federal Ministry of Employment, Labour and Productivity, Abuja from June 2001 to November, 2002; Legal Adviser, Federal Ministry of Employment, Labour and Productivity, Abuja from 5th November 2002 to 18th June 2010; Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Justice, Civil Litigation and Public Law Department, Abuja from January 2010 to 13th June 2013.
He was appointed Acting Director, Federal Ministry of Justice, Civil Litigation and Public Law Department, Abuja on the 13th June 2013. His appointment as the Acting Director Civil Litigation witnessed a wave of positive changes resulting in improved capacity and professionalism exhibited by the Legal Officers of the Department in the conduct of cases in defence of the Nigerian Government; giving rise to remarkable results within the period he provided leadership for the Department. His achievements within that period earned him commendations from the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation. As a result of his outstanding performance and dedication to duties, Taiwo Akinola Abidogun was elevated to the rank of a substantive Director on the 1st day of January, 2015 and thereafter, on the 10th day of November, 2015 appointed Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Justice by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
Mr. Taiwo Akinola Abidogun enjoys reading, playing table tennis and lawn tennis as his hobbies. He is happily married to Mrs. Olufunmilola Abidogun and they are blessed with children.
