The Court of Appeal has declared that the Police Act 2020, enacted in September this year as it affects the constitutional mandate of the Police Service Commission (PSC) is unconstitutional and void.

Analysts believed the nullification of the act was a serious setback for President Muhammadu Buhari who assented to the bill and the National Assembly, which signed it into law.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Wednesday in Lagos, urged Justice Mohammed Liman of the Lagos Federal High Court to ignore the “no case submission” filed by alleged internet fraudster, Ismail Mustapha alias Mompha. EFCC’s Counsel, S. I. Sulaiman, stated this in a counter to Mompha’s “no case submission” application which was adopted by the court.

An Accounts Director with the Federal Ministry of Education, Matthew Inabo, was yesterday re-arraigned before the Federal High Court, Abuja over his alleged involvement in diverting about N45million meant for the Federal Government Home Grown School Feeding and Health Programme (HGSFHP). Inabo, however, pleaded not guilty to a 24-count amended charge dated October 12 shortly after it was read to him. The suit was filed before Justice Inyang Ekwo by counsel to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Aminu Alilu.

The Presidential panel set up to probe the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has begun a physical verification of all assets seized by the EFCC, The PUNCH has learnt. The panel, led by a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, has visited Lagos, Abuja, Rivers State and a few other major offices of the commission.
