ALLEGED AGF INFLUENCE: EFCC PROBES TRENDING AUDIOTAPE – THE NATION PG.6,THISDAY PG.38

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday said it had begun investigation into a trending audiotape containing claims, allegedly made by one of its prosecutors, Mr. Mohammed Idris, about the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN). It said the recording of what may be a conversation between Idris and a relative of a crime suspect contained “unsubstantiated claims” regarding the minister’s influence on the commission.

The Federal Government’s investigative panel on police brutality yesterday awarded N146 million compensation to 27 victims of various rights violations in 20 separate cases. The cases in which compensation was awarded include those related to extra-judicial killings/forced disappearance, torture/inhuman and degrading treatment, illegal arrests/prolonged detention, confiscation of property and threat to life.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has commenced the prosecution of a notorious trafficker of Nigerian young women from Nigeria to Spain, Patricia Igbinovia (aka Mama Bobby). The Director-General of NAPTIP, Dr Fatima Waziri-Azi, disclosed this on Thursday at a virtual meeting with stakeholders and partners of the agency to mark her first 100 days in office.

A Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, has ordered the final forfeiture of 60 buildings illegally acquired by a former Deputy Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Adenike Bintu, to the Federal Government. Bintu was said to have defrauded over 1,000 persons, who subscribed to her housing estate located along the Airport Road, Abuja.
