MALAMI, STATE AGS, OTHERS SEEK UNIFORM CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT ADMINISTRATION – THISDAY PG.6

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, alongside states Attorney Generals as well as other critical stakeholders in the justice sector have called for uniformity in the minimum standard for the implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and the Administration of Criminal Justice Laws operated by both the federal and state governments. The stakeholders that spoke at a summit on the National Minimum Standards (NMS) for effective implementation of the ACJA, 2015 and ACJLs, agreed that there was need to change the way the ACJA and ACJLs were being handled.

President Muhammadu Buhari may have declined assent to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill. There was disquiet yesterday among members of the National Assembly, who were locked in series of meetings to articulate their response to the alleged denial of assent.The President had 30 days to sign or decline assent to the bill, following its transmission to the National Assembly on Novembers 19, 2021.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has arrested a 27-year-old expectant mother, Eze Joy Chioma, for possessing 1,442 kg of imported skunk in Lagos State. The agency also said four men including 62-year-old Basset Emmanuel, were arrested with 182,000 tablets of Tramadol. Its spokesman, Femi Babafemi, in a statement yesterday, said they were arrested by operatives who raided two clandestine drug stores in Lagos.

ABACHA’S FAMILY URGES SUPREME COURT TO DISMISS SUIT BY DURBAR HOTEL’S WORKER – NATION PG.5

The family of the late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, has urged the Supreme Court to dismiss the appeal by workers of Durbar Hotel Plc for lack of diligent prosecution. The request is contained in a motion filed on December 16 by the family’s lawyer, Reuben Atabo (SAN). In a supporting affidavit, the family averred that the workers, led by Abella Ityough, filed their notice of appeal on March 2, 2021, while the Court of Appeal, Kaduna, transmitted the record of appeal on August 28, 2021.

Months after receiving the report of the probe panel on the alleged role of the suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, the Inspector-General of Police, Baba Usman, has not forwarded any disciplinary recommendations to the Police Service Commission, Newsmen has learnt. Kyari was investigated for his alleged role in a $1.1m Internet scam carried out by an Instagram influencer, Abbas Ramon, aka Hushpuppi, and four others.

FRAUD PROBE: PANDEF ALLEGES EFCC TARGETING NIGER DELTANS FOR PERSECUTION – PUNCH PG.13

The Pan Niger Delta Forum on Sunday asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to stop the alleged continuous indiscriminate persecution and harassment of prominent people from the South-South zone over alleged corruption. The group accused the anti-graft agency, under the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), of carrying out selective operations targeting former public office holders from the South-South for prosecution and ‘media trial’ over alleged cases of graft.
