The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on Sunday dismissed reports that his office had absolved suspended DCP Abba Kyari of any wrongdoing in the $1.1m internet fraud. The report of the office of the AGF in a legal advice no: DPPA/LA/814/21, written on behalf of the AGF by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the ministry, Mohammed Abubakar, said the evidence contained in the case diary had no link between DCP Abba Kyari and fraudster, Ramon Abass, also known as Hushpuppi, in the $1.1m internet scam.

Barely a week after senators threw out a fresh amendment request on the newly-signed Electoral Amendment Act by President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and some APC governors are making frantic efforts to vacate a court order restraining the National Assembly from tinkering with the Act. The amendment sought by President Buhari failed last week Wednesday to scale through second reading on the floor of the senate during plenary.

A former Chairman of the Project Development Agency, Enugu, Mr Daniel Onjeh, has dragged the National Assembly and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), before a Federal High Court in Abuja over Section 84 (10) of the Electoral (Amendment) Act, 2022. In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/300/2022 and filed on March 10, 2022, Onjeh is seeking an order of the court to strike out a section of the Act, which he said was inconsistent with the nation’s constitution.  The section restricts political appointees at any level from voting or being voted for at parties’ congresses or conventions.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) yesterday asked Southeast leaders to stop begging for the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu. It believes pleading for his freedom makes it appear as if Kanu did something wrong. The group urged the Federal Government to either withdraw the charges against Kanu by April 8 when the case will come up, or allow for his discharge.

NDLEA TRACES N4.2BN TO ABBA KYARI, CO-ACCUSED’S ACCOUNTS – PUNCH PG.2

Fresh facts have emerged on how suspended super cop and former Commander of the Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari; as well as his deputy, ACP Sunday Ubua, allegedly received a combined N4.2bn from their separate bank accounts. The details are part of a report sent to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, by the NDLEA. According to the drug enforcement agency, not less than N1.4bn passed through Kyari’s account while he was commander of the IRT.  However, Kyari’s deputy, Ubua, may have received far more than him as not less than N2.8bn was traced to his eight bank accounts.
