FALANA DENIES BUYING ABUJA PROPERTY FROM EFCC – NATION PG.6

Activist-lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has denied ownership of a property at 42,

Gana Street, Maitama District in Abuja. He said there was no truth in the story that he bought the property from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).The lawyer made the clarifications in a statement yesterday in Lagos, titled: “I have never bought any property from the EFCC.”

The National Health Insurance Scheme is making efforts to recover some missing funds estimated at about N27bn, its Executive Secretary, Prof. Mohammed Sambo, has said. While expressing optimism that the NHIS Amendment Bill pending before the National Assembly for passage would change the face of health insurance in the country, he said a review of the NHIS Act would allow the agency to enroll more Nigerians.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has invited for questioning the Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun, over an allegation of fraud that allegedly rocked the Assembly recently. Besides the speaker, it was gathered that the Clerk of the Assembly, Mr Bode Adeyelu, and the Deputy Clerk, Mr Amos Olowogorioye, and the Chairman, House Committee on Tertiary Education, Mr FelemuguduBankole, and some civil servants were invited by the anti-graft agency.

SUPREME COURT TO HEAR DICKSON’S APPEAL AGAINST DISQUALIFICATION SUIT TODAY – NATION PG.6

The Supreme Court has fixed today to hear the appeal filed by former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson against a suit seeking his disqualification from contesting the concluded Bayelsa West Senatorial District’s election. The Port Harcourt Division of the Court of Appeal had, on January 7, 2021, ruled that the disqualification suit against Dickson was not statute barred and should be given accelerated hearing by the Federal High Court.

WEST AFRICA: VENEZUELAN ENVOY URGES ECOWAS COURT TO HALT HIS EXTRADITION FROM CAPE VERDE TO U.S. – THISDAY PG.53

A Special Envoy to the Government of Venezuela, Mr. Alex Nain Saab Morán, has urged the West African regional court, the ECOWAS Court of Justice, to halt the plan to extradite him from Cape Verde to the United States of America. Morán, a dual Colombian and Venezuelan nationality, who has been in detention since his arrest by Cape Verde authorities four months ago, urged the court to suspend the extradition process as a precautionary measure pending the court’s decision on the merits.
