BAD GOVERNANCE RESPONSIBLE FOR INSECURITY – NHRC BOSS, OJUKWU – PUNCH PG.12 &13
The Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu (SAN), talks to FRIDAY OLOKOR on the increasing level of human rights violation and how the body is tackling them. Of course, the general insecurity in the country is very sad for human rights work. It is one of the greatest challenges of the commission. The commission has no jack knife, no gun and no machete to fight for the implementation of its wishes and decisions. The issue of insecurity in the country is one that has defied all solutions for the meantime and the greatest casualty is usually human rights. If any single person is killed, that is a human right issue. If any person is hurt or injured or arrested or detained, it is a human right issue. If anybody is tortured along the process or executed in an extrajudicial manner, it is a human right issue.
