ORDER ON HERDERS TO VACATE FOREST: PRESIDENCY CAUTIONS AKEREDOLU – THE NATION PG.1 & 4, PUNCH PG.10,DAILY TRUST PG.5

The Presidency on Tuesday cautioned Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), against breaching the constitution in securing the state.

In a statement by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the Presidency reacted to a directive by Akeredolu to herders to vacate Ondo’s Reservation Forests within seven days.

The Federal Government has said over 4,000 inmates have been released nationwide under an amnesty programme initiated by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in April last year. The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who disclosed this during the inauguration of 53 operational vehicles for the Nigerian Correctional Service in Abuja, on Tuesday, noted that the initiative had helped in reducing the number of inmates in custodial facilities nationwide.

A widow, Adebimpe Sobowale, has told the Judicial Panel of Enquiry sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, that she was allegedly tortured and detained for four days despite being pregnant. She told the panel that her husband was killed in police detention over a N200 airtime allegedly traced to her phone. Sobowale said this on Monday while defending a petition filed against operatives of the Zonal Intervention Squad. The ZIS is an anti-robbery squad under the Zone 2 Police Command.

DISMISSAL: COURT DISMISSES NJC’S OBJECTION TO AJUMOGOBIA’S SUIT – PUNCH PG.7,THISDAY PG.12

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday dismissed the objection raised by the National Judicial Council against the hearing of a suit filed by Justice Rita Ajumogobia to challenge her dismissal. The NJC had in 2018 dismissed Ajumogobia as a judge of the Federal High Court over alleged gross professional misconduct.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says there are about 13 court cases against Aisha Wakil, popularly known as Mama Boko Haram at the federal and state high courts here in Maiduguri. According to a statement by North-East Zonal Head of the EFCC, Mr. Egbodolo Olumide, the three counts before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri is a fresh charge bordering on criminal conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence and inducement.

465 INMATES TO STUDY CRIMINOLOGY, SECURITY STUDIES’ – DAILY TRUST PG.14

The Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, said a total of 465 inmates have enrolled into various degree programmes including Criminology, Security Studies, Political Science and others. The minister, who stated this during the inauguration of 53 operational vehicles purchased for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Abuja, on Tuesday, said the inmates enrolled under the NCoS educational and self-improvement programme.
