Nigeria’s bid to set aside the P&ID Limited’s arbitration award has suffered a setback as VR Capital Group Limited has secured a United States’ court ruling to block the federal government from accessing its internal documents.

The move to access the documents was part of the federal government’s attempt to stop P&ID Limited, partly owned by VR from collecting the nearly $10 billion arbitration award.

The Nigerian Senate has described as grossly inadequate, the N110 billion budgetary estimates projected for the Judiciary in 2021 as given in the 2020 fiscal year. Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja when its Committee engaged Chief Registrars of all the courts on their 2021 budgetary proposals, Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, APC Ekiti Central noted that N110 billion earmarked for the arm of government in the coming fiscal year, is grossly inadequate to bring about the needed turnaround.

The Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) on Tuesday warned that neglecting the youth can harm the country’s future. It said catering for youths is a win-win situation and a guarantee for a better tomorrow.PACAC Executive Secretary Prof Sadiq Radda said the future can be secured through investment in the youth today.

A former Head of the Central Pay of the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr Titus Okunrinboye, told the Federal High Court in Abuja how a sum of N359m meant for a special project was disbursed without proper documentation in January 2015. Okunrinboye said out of the N359m, he handed a cash sum of N50m to an aide of the then minister, Tanimu Turaki, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

NDLEA ARRESTS 92, CONFISCATES 987KG DRUGS IN KANO – DAILY TRUST PG.46

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested 92 suspected drug traffickers and confiscated 987.024 kilogrammes of drugs in Kano last month. NDLEA Commander in the state, Dr Ibrahim Abdul, said the suspects were apprehended across Kano metropolis.

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has said over 14.3 million Nigerians between the ages of 15 and 64 use hard drugs. This came as Kwara State Labour Party, LP, governorship candidate in 2019 general election and General Secretary, National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, Issa Aremu, called for a national drug policy to arrest issues concerning hard drugs usage in Nigeria among others.

The proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) does not represent or speak for Ndigbo, Southeast governors have said. Southeast Governors’ Forum Chairman Chief David Umahi stated this during a meeting with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.The Ebonyi State governor, in an audio clip of his speech, when he led other Southeast governors to visit Wike at the Government House in Port Harcourt, questioned the group’s agitation.

A Victim of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Anambra State, Dr. Justin Nwankwo, on Tuesday told the state’s judicial panel of enquiry that he was detained for 81 days and tortured. Nwankwo said his scrotum was nearly damaged as the SARS officials at Awkuzum in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State tortured him intermittently.

The counsel representing #EndSARS protesters before the Lagos State Panel of Judicial Inquiry probing the alleged shooting of the protesters by soldiers at the Lekki tollgate, Mr Adesina Ogunlana, has said his team has evidence to counter the claim by the Nigerian Army that there was no massacre or killings of protesters at the tollgate on the night of October 20. In response to a summons by the judicial panel, the Nigerian Army had on Friday filed its defence papers and listed three Brigadier Generals and one Lieutenant Colonel to testify before the panel.

A Man, who claimed to be a human rights activist, Kenechukwu Okeke, has filed a criminal complaint before a Chief Magistrate’s Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) against 50 persons, including activists, musicians, celebrities, football star, musicians, among others. Okeke, who said he resides at Plot 224, Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja, claimed, in a document he filed along with the complaint that the defendants, between October 2 and 28, 2020 using Twitter, a micro blogging and electronic social networking service, conspired among themselves to commit misdemeanor, to wit, “promoting or acting in such a manner with intent to assist in promotion of an unlawful assembly under the guise of or composure of ” #ENDSARS.”

The immediate past Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administrative and Safety Agency, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has called on the Federal Government to grant presidential pardon to late Ogoni hero, Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight of his kinsmen. Peterside, in a statement by his media team obtained by our correspondent in Port Harcourt, said such pardon would heal the wounds of the Ogoni people and enable the nine to be buried properly and given due recognition for their ultimate sacrifice.

The Jagunmolu Agbekoya of Yorubaland, Prince Kunle Adelakun, on Tuesday lamented that just as done to his late father by the Muhammadu Buhari/Tunde Idiagbon regime in 1984, he was recently detained and tortured alongside eight other civilians at the 2 Mechanised Division, Odogbo, Ibadan, following his arrest at the main gate of the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. Adelakun, who is the son of the late prominent Yoruba politician, Busari Adelakun, was arrested alongside eight others, including a lawyer, simply identified as Salawu.

TH\E defendants charged with offences of examination malpractices allegedly involving a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss the case. The four defendants are a relative of the former governorship candidate, Sikiru Adeleke; the principal of Ojo-Aro Community Grammar School, Alhaji Aregbesola Muftau; the registrar of the school, Gbadamosi Ojo; and a teacher in the school, Dare Olutope.
