DIRECTOR, INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE COOPERATION

MS. NKIRUKA BELLA JONES-NEBO is the Director and Head of the Department of International Criminal Justice Cooperation of the Federal Ministry of Justice. She attended the University of Nigeria, where she obtained her L.L.B and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1998. She was awarded an L.L.M in International Dispute Resolution by the University of London in 2010.

Ms. Jones-Nebo joined the Federal Ministry of Justice as a State Counsel in 2000 assuming duties as junior Counsel while assisting the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary with legal research, legal advice, support at meetings and other sundry duties. She then served in each of the professional Departments of the Federal Ministry of Justice for at least three (3) months, garnering experience on the main duties therein. She was posted to serve at the Department of Public Prosecutions in 2002. She was deputed to serve in The Gambia between 2005 and 2011 as an Expatriate Prosecuting Counsel on Technical Assistance based on a bilateral Agreement between Nigeria and The Gambia. She has served as a Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Here she assisted the Director of Public Prosecutions to set up and administer a newly created office of the DPP which is constitutionally independent of the Attorney-General.

She was one of the pioneer members of the Complex Casework Group  (CCG) when the unit was established in 2013. She has served as the Deputy Unit Head and Unit Head respectively. Prior to that time, she had served as the Head of the Anti-Corruption Unit and member of the Mutual Legal Assistance and Extradition Unit as part of the Department of Public Prosecutions of the Federation. She has also served as an Assistant Legal Adviser at the Ministries of Industry and Police Affairs and Legal Adviser at the Office of the Senior Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly (Senate) Matters.

She is presently the Director International Criminal Justice Cooperation.
